Rape is not a political or religious issue, unless you believe that rape can somehow be justified for political or religious reasons

We held an emergency meeting tonight to figure out the issues concerning our transportation to SlutWalk NYC being revoked. We hope to have this resolved by mid-day tomorrow. Everyone should prepare an alternative plan. We will keep everyone up date as best we can. The reason our transportation has been revoked appears to misconstrue rape, sexual, and domestic violence as political issues, rather than issues universal ethical concern.

If this problem is not resolved in an appropriate and timely manner, the administration can be sure that they will be held publicly accountable.We adhere resolutely to the mission of SlutWalk NYC that everyone should live free from fear of rape, sexual, and domestic violence. FORTH has from its inception held this mission to be of the utmost importance.It seems that there has been a critical misunderstanding about the nature of the walk and if it is not resolved, we intend to publicize the details of this offensive and demoralizing decision.

We are working with LGBTQU, Trans Action, Complexuality, Philosophy Society (Purchase College) and The Purchase Independent. We are reaching out to Women’s Media Center, Jezebel, Feminist Campus, Students Active for Ending Rape (SAFER) & more to make sure that we are not silenced in our shared mission to promote a safer climate on our campuses.
The aims of Slutwalk are in the interest of all college campuses, regardless of political or religious affiliation. Rape is universally deplorable. To construe rape as a “political issue” suggests that sexual violence is a justifiable political value.

We are all working together to build a safer community on our campuses and in our communities. Construing this movement as politically or religiously controversial is both offensive and dangerously stupid.
